Some Of Our Life-Saving Success Stories Preventing Euthanasia That Have Been Adopted
Pie - Animal Abuse
Pie was the unfortunate victim of abuse. He was rescued with a rubber band around his mouth which had become buried in the skin, making him unable to open his mouth or eat properly. Pie had surgery to remove the rubber band and treat his severely infected wounds. He later had a second surgery to repair his lip and gums which had been deformed from the injury. Dr. Lezcano couldn’t help but fall in love, providing a forever home for him! Now fully recovered, Pie comes to visit us frequently and see all his friends at Central Broward.
Chevy - Parvo Puppy
We received Chevy from Broward County Animal Control in February 2020. Chevy had severe parvo virus and a respiratory infection, leading to only a 10% chance of survival . He was slated for euthanasia because of the severity of his illness and the resources necessary to treat him. Chevy’s significantly deadly illness had him in a very critical state. He was hospitalized with intensive care for 3 weeks. Fortunately, he made it out of the woods and is now thriving. He is a loving, playful 1-year-old Shih Tzu enjoying his second chance at life going to a forever home!
Lucy - Support Dog
This girl was a very special case for the Aska Animal Welfare Foundation. Lucy is so dear to the hearts of Central Broward Animal Hospital because of the very important job she now has: Lucy was hand-picked from the shelter and trained by us to be a emotional support pet for her now-best-friend, Joshua, who has cerebral palsy. She comes to visit us at Central Broward and is always side-by-side with her best friend.
Blue - Severe Mange
This beautiful 6-month-old pit bull puppy, Blue, had a very severe condition of demodectic mange when she came to the Aska Animal Welfare Foundation. She was the first pet to be treated through the foundation. Though demodex is not contagious, it can cause severe skin infection and be very uncomfortable . Luckily, once healed, Blue was able to be a completely normal dog and is now enjoying her human and furry family in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.
Bailey-Mutilated Foot and Severe Heartworm Disease
We at Central Broward Animal Hospital share with heavy hearts and much sadness that Bailey has passed away from heart disease created by his severe heartworm infection. His love, kindness and beauty filled our hearts while we filled his days with much love and happiness while he was with our foundation. As heartbroken as we are at the moment, we take solace in knowing that our doctors and staff took on the challenge against the odds to give Bailey every opportunity to live a normal and happy life in a loving family while no one else would. We at Central Broward Animal Hospital understand that if we are going to take on the most challenging cases, we must prepare ourselves for both the wins and the losses. I would personally like to thank my staff for their difficult work and our friends and clients for their overwhelming support. Now we will gather the strength to move on to save the next homeless and seriously ill pet. That is our mission!
Precious - Forgotten Stray
Precious was brought into Central Broward Animal Hospital as a 5–week-old kitten found as a stray with his mother. He had fleas, diarrhea, a skin infection and a contagious fungal skin disease called ringworm. His rescuers were unable to treat his multiple issues and relinquished him to the Aska Animal Welfare Foundation for treatment. He stayed hospitalized for 2 months until he was healed and healthy. Precious now has a new home, new loving family (complete with a feline sister) and the new name of Leo for a fresh start in life.
Scott-Animal Hoarding Case
Scott, an approximately 4-year old male chihuahua, was found in an RV with 19 other chihuahuas in a hoarding case. He was placed on the euthanasia list at a shelter because of his debilitating respiratory infection, severe dental disease, and skin mass. He is a sassy, loving boy and is fitting in perfectly at the Aska Animal Welfare Foundation. We are excited to care for his medical needs and prevent another unnecessary euthanasia. We will find him a furever home!
UPDATE:
We have wonderful news! Scott, the chihuahua who was one of our Aska Animal Welfare Foundation rescues slated to be euthanized at the shelter, was adopted by our very own Dr. Wald and his family. He fell in love with Scott’s cute little face and couldn’t resist. We are so happy to give Scott a wonderful furever home. There’s nothing like the emotional support of a rescue during these trying times. Keeping with the spirit of the foundation, Dr. Wald made a generous donation to cover all of Scott’s medical expenses. Here’s a cute photo of how he’s settling into his new home!
Holly - Life-Saving Limb Amputation
Holy had a badly broken and infected leg that had gone too long before any medical treatment. After a thorough assessment, our doctors decided the best choice to save Holly’s life was to amputate the leg. Today Holly runs and plays just like her other four-legged friends and enjoys her life in an amazing forever loving home.
